Update! Tria laser hair removal. One year later...

Hey guys! Last time I talked about the Tria laser I said I would update in three months. It's been a year. I'm sorry!!! I have been crazy busy with pharm school and one month led to two months and before I knew it, its 2014 and I'm starting rotations plus I'm working as a pharmacy intern! But I have good news! I have an update that you may want to consider!

I have used the tria laser on and off throughout the last year. I admit it was hard to commit. On smaller areas of my body it was easy. But on larger areas not so much. You see you have to cover your skin by overlaping and on areas like my legs, it would take hours to finish. This was especially true when you consider having more hair per inch square of your skin.

I started the Tria a little more than a year ago. I used it weekly on my arms, underarms, upper lip and bikini. I wanted to do my legs more religously, but it was hard to do both my legs every single week. It took hours. The surface area of the laser is small, so it takes a while to cover the entire area. Good news is that it worked on the areas I committed to do. Not so great news was that if you didn't, you wouldn't get such great results. But that's true of everything.

After three months, there was a noticeable reduction in the frequency of my shaving. The hair took longer to grow, and it was thinner. My bikini area was the place where the change was most noticeable. And that's the place where it counts the most. At least to me. LOL

A year later...

The areas I used it on barely has any regrowth at all. I shave maybe twice a month. TWICE a month!!! Can you say freeeedom?! I shave less frequently than I did, but I'm not completely free. I still use it, but only once a month at most, just to keep the results. You know, maintenance and stuff. As for my legs, I decided to start professional laser hair removal after three months of starting the Tria Laser. You see, as good as the Tria is, it takes a while to finish an area if you happen to be on the more hairy side of the spectrum. Which I am. If they can come up with a laser for wider areas of the body I'd be all over that. But even for maintenance, it was an inconvenience since, as I said before, the laser is small. Another disclaimer I have to say is that I had to use the highest setting to see results. The pain lasted for like 3 seconds at most. After a year of the treatments the results are consistent. So yes, the results do last, albeit maintenance treatments help with that.

So how does the skin look like?
Smoother. Some hairs dont grow back at all, so the pores where the hairs used to be get so small that it is virtually gone to the naked eye.

Any hyperpigmentation?
No. But I made sure not to expose my skin to the sun, and used sunscreen. So for a while I was Casper, but we all know too much sun exposure is damaging.

How long did it take for the sessions?
A while. I devoted an entire morning. But I did treat my whole body. I guess the hesitation due to the little pinch you feel slows down the process. But most days I used topical lidocaine gel and it helped a lot. Lidocaine is available as a topical local anesthetic. It is available over the counter but the stronger formulas need a prescription.

Can we see a picture?
Uh, sure. Let me show you a picture of my arm not shaven for month. Please note, I used to be very fuzzy. Try not to laugh yourself into a comma.

But now the real question: should you buy this?
I'd say its a good investment to do if you're willing to take the time to use it.
It definately inclines me to try the rest of the lasers they offer. I know they have other products and if the quality measures up to this one, then I wouldn't doubt it for a second.

How to: wear makeup over blemishes/acne

We've all been there. Whether you get one or two blemishes during that time of the month, or because your skin is just acne prone (even after those awkward puberty years), we've all have to face this spine tingling dilemma: how can I cover up my blemishes without breaking out more? Is this you? Well, I may have found the answer to all your problems.

Turn your attention to no other than the Smashbox Photofinish primer: Blemish Control. $42 available here.

After your face cleaning routine but before applying makeup, apply this evenly to your face. It has 2% salicylic acid for acne treatment which promises to help clear up your skin in 2 weeks and help keep it clear. This primer is also hydrating and the salicylic acid will, in addition to fight acne, make your pores smaller over time. Since it is a primer, it will provide a layer of protection for your skin against pore clogging makeup and environmental stressors. Yes, it does all of that plus helps your makeup stay all day and all night. What more could you ask?

I gave this to my sister for Christmas and ever since then, it has helped clear her skin, control oil and keep her makeup on morning, noon and night! I liked her results so much that I bought a tube for myself so that I can use it when I get the occasional blemish and don't want to further clog my pores. While I don't use it as much, I do find it very convenient to have.

For makeup, I suggest going light. I know it might be tempting to slather on a full coverage foundation and layer concealer like it's going out of style but resist you must. Use more skin friendly products like cc creams which is like the upgraded versions of bb creams only lighter and with more skin caring ingredients. Smashbox CC cream can be a good alternative to your usual foundation. It evens out skin tone, provides light coverage and also helps lighten and brighten dark spots. Perfect for those acne scars. Another skin friendly product is Clinique's CC cream. We all know Clinique strives for hypoallergenic and non irritant products. Give your skin some TLC (tender love and care) and skip your heavy foundation and opt for this one. It offers good coverage and skin loving hydration. Both products offer SPF protection which is always a plus!!

For concealer, just apply under eyes if you really need it. Don't layer it on top of your blemish. It only makes it more obvious plus it can irritate it. Skip it altogether if you don't have dark circles (you lucky bastard you!).

And then just apply some light finishing powder to set it all and prevent shine. You can use a powder blush too. I suggest using your favorite mineral powder and lightly dusting it over your face with a big fluffy powder brush. Mineral makeup is super skin friendly and anyone with acne prone or sensitive skin should stick to it routinely.

MAC 134 face brush. $53 I love mine!

Tips and tricks for clearer skin:

1. Exfoliate your skin with a deep pore scrub using hot water. The heat will open up your pores allowing the scrub to cleanse more deeply and get rid of pore clogging debris and dead skin cells.

2. Follow with a gentle cream cleanser with cold water. Double cleansing ensures no residues are left on your face and the cold water will close up the pores.

3. Tone your face before bedtime. In the morning you'll be glad you did.

4. Use a face mask at once weekly. A deep pore cleansing mask is preffered. Like Origins Clear Improvement Active Charcoal mask to detoxify skin and brighten it.

5. Take off your makeup before bed! This one's self explanatory. Do I need to stress it further??? I think not.

Aaaand there you go. A few tips that I find that works for me. Now I will make the disclaimer that I don't have acne prone skin, so this may or may not work on you. I do get the occasional blemish during that time of the month, but it's usually one and goes away fast, so I attribute it to my routine.

Spring 2014 Beauty Must-haves!!

Well not yet, but almost! And here in Puerto Rico, it's always spring/summer so it doesn't really make a difference. But for me, I like to change my makeup with the seasons. Don't ask me why, it just makes sense to me. So if you're like me, and want to update your makeup collection, here are the following makeup must haves for this season!

NEW Clinique Cheek Pop blushes. $21

Available in 4 cute shades: Ginger Pop, Plum Pop, Peach Pop, and my favorite Berry Pop!! These are the MOST long lasting blushes I have ever tried! I own Berry Pop and I used it for work. After an 8 hour shift, the blush was STILL there. Just as if I had applied in the morning. The formulation is a sort of creamy powder, so it adheres to your face better than pressed powder formulations. I used the MAC 129 blush/powder blush to apply it to the apples of my cheeks, blending it upwards. The four shades are just adorable and not to mention the packaging! I mean look at the flower embossed! TOO CUTE! This is definitely a spring release that any makeup enthusiast must have in their collection. So go on. Get it. ;)

Urban Decay Naked 3 Palette $52

This came out last november and it made such an uproar. And for good reason!! The palette boasts 12 new rose-gold hued shades that can compliment any skintone. I swear. If you didn't get it last season, then don't make the same mistake this season. The color payoff is amazing and you can make any type of look, day to night, without it being too harsh with this palette. I love the packaging as well. It seems sturdy and travel friendly. So glad I got this.

Orgins Zero Oil Pore Purifying Toner $21

I'm on my second bottle of this. It takes a lot for me to repurchase since I love trying out new products and there always seems like there is something better for me out there. But with this, I have a feeling we are going to be friends for a looooong time. You see, this toner helped reduce my pores, normalize my oily T-zone, and clear up blackheads and the few hormonal blemishes I get around that time of the month. After I got a nose job (yes I had work done. lol) My nose and T-zone got super oily and that was new to me. After trying out Clinique's toner in number 2, it helped clean out the oil, but it didn't really normalize my skin. It wasn't until I tried this out that I saw an improvement. I no longer have to blot my face incessantly.

Roses de ChloĆ© eau de toilette $ depends on Fl Oz

Nothing says spring like floral scents! I love the original ChloƩ perfume, so when they came out with this rose scented version I knew I would love it as well. It did not disappoint. It is like a bouquet of fresh roses that is also clean smelling. Like more modern of sorts, not your grandma's rose perfume. It has a good staying power as well without being too strong or overwhelming. I wore this to work as well and received many many compliments on my perfume. Lovely smell!

FRESH Sugar Petal lip balm $22.50

Although my all time favorite is the Sugar Rose version, this comes pretty darn close! It has a sturdier formulation than the rose one so it won't melt as easily. And it is also more tinted. It leaves a soft pink blossom tint to your lips that makes them look naturally beautiful. Very nourishing plus it has SPF.

This is definitely a splurge item. But I can't live without this. I usually get the travel size version ($18) since the bottle is actually glass. The design for this one is limited edition, by L'Wren Scott. This is a toner and complexion mist that hydrates, tightens pores and adds an instant boost of radiance to dull tired skin. I use it before applying anything to my face. It smells like a garden of roses, orange blossoms, and grapes with a hint of mint. Is it essential? Maybe not, but it's addicting as hell. Don't try it unless you want to be HOOKED! I have warned you...

And there you go! My list of spring beauty must-haves for 2014. I have bought and tested these items myself, so what I say is 100% honest. If you have any suggestions for this spring be sure to comment below! Have fun, stay lovely!

Chanel Makeup Review

Last holiday I received as a gift a little set of Chanel makeup. I know. SO AWESOME! I was excited to try it out and give a review to you guys but I wanted to try it out for a couple of weeks before posting any first impressions so that I can give an honest review. I didn't want to be part of any sort of hype, but Good Lord, you can really tell the difference in quality. But more on that later. I also received a bunch of other makeup products that I've been trying out so bear with me. I want you guys to have useful info!! ^_^

Anywho, here is a list of the Chanel brand products I got for Christmas:

Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua ultra light skin perfecting sunscreen makeup foundation. I got the shade B30

This thing is amazing. It retails at about $45. The consistency is very liquidy which makes it very light weight. It's coverage is just amazing. You only need a little bit and it makes your skin look like porcelain. I kid you not, I got that compliment at work. You have to shake it before pouring it out though because the particles separate. It feels like you are just applying a very light moisturizer but the finish is amazing. I use the sigma F 80 kabuki brush to buff it in and it looks amazing! Very dewy and just overall perfect. The coverage lasts all day but I use Smashbox dark spot correcting primer underneath so I couldn't tell you how long it'll last on its own. I wouldn't use it for everyday because its coverage is pretty high and also it comes in such a small bottle, you might start crying when its empty. Also, the scent is heavenly. Smells like roses. Seriously. Freaking roses.

Chanel poudre universelle compacte natural finish pressed powder in 40 Dore.

Super mega finely milled powder that makes setting any foundation, bb cream or cc cream a breeze. You seriously can NOT over apply this. It's so fine!! It's impossible! I love the packaging as well. It looks so classy in its black compact with white CC chanel logo. I love taking it out and checking out how my makeup is doing. The only downside to this is the shades available are limited.

Chanel buffer brush (So adorable!!)

Perfect for applying the finishing powder to set the chanel foundation. I am in love with this buffer brush! It's very dense and picks up just enough product. It disperses it evenly and does not shed. Beautiful little thing!!

Chanel Joues Contraste blush in So in Love

This is the same blush Lauren Conrad adores! So as a fan, I just had to get it. Its a pinkish coral blush perfect for spring and summer. It has slight golden shimmer but isn't too overwhelming. This blush also smells like roses! It comes with a little brush too for on the go touch ups! It has a great staying power and it is so fine! Beautiful color!!

Chanel Levres Scintillantes Glossimer (lipgloss) in 166 amour

This is a pink-coral lipgloss that came in 2013 spring collection. This lipgloss lasts forever. Seriously. I love the little golden specks! They make lips look plumper!! The sheer wash of color looks very sophisticated and it never gives that weird white peel some lipglosses leave on the inner side of the lips.

Chanel Le Crayon Levres Precision lip definer in Pink Sugar

I use this under the lipgloss. Its a shimmery pink color that can be used on its own for that my-lips-but-better effect. This goes perfectly together with the lipgloss in amour and look so classy! This never bleeds or dries out my lips. I highly recommend this duo especially if you have light skin. You'll look like a princess!

All in all, I am in love with these products. I have to say that the packaging has role in my opinion of these products. It just looks so glamorous!! The quality is well worth the price, but I'm sure that you could find dupes for the colors. (Not for the quality though!) My favorite item has to be the lipgloss + lip pencil combo. I just love how they go together!! I have to warn you though, the shades are quite limited for some chanel products. I suggest going to a counter to get matched and even so you might not get a perfect match. Will I repurchase? Probably. The feel and scent of the products are addicting. You have been warned.

Super awkward closeup of my face. Sorry. LOL.

My sister and I. As you can see, the chanel foundation looks flawless!
